Pastor Kumuyi opens up “these days are better than those good old days”

Recently, the General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor W.F Kumuyi, sheds light on the supernatural happenings in the Deeper Life Bible Church through its monthly organized Miracle and Revival Programme. In the interview granted to journalist in Lagos, the pastor spoke at length on the programme- what informed it and the demonstration of God’s power as well as its impact on people’s lives. He also spoke of his lofty vision for the Nigerian youth. Here are excerpts from the interview.

Sir, we want to know what inspired you to come up with this MONTHLY programme?

For some time now we have concentrated on our Thursday Revival and Evangelism Training Service, and we have what we refer to as “Power Night” that is a special revival service every third Thursday of the month. Here, we preach, minister and reach out to people. However, we observed that in Lagos and elsewhere, people have challenges in their lives, families and careers as well as other problems that the Thursday meeting and other church programmes couldn’t take care of. We saw that the local churches were not meeting the people’s needs fully; hence, the need for more that what we had provided. That is why we came up with this programme on third weekends of the month to deal withthese problems.
Since we started this programme December 2012, the Lord has favoured us with spectacular miracles. The programme has helped to solve a lot of problems; people’s spirits are lifted up now, and excitement and revival pervades everywhere.

How do you feel about this programme ?

I feel happy that God is touching the lives of people within and outside the Church in dramatic fashions, and the joy too. These happenings demonstrate the fulfillment of the word of God in tangible ways. I feel happy that the word of God is really touching lives. I am glad that I could be of more service and help to families, churches and groups of people.

Sir, do you mean that the church is going back to the good old days as you started some time ago?

In fact, what is happening now is beyond good old days because in the 80s, we had good times, real revival, and things were happening every Thursday. But at that time we didn’t have the advantage using the internet and electronic transmission. It was a localized kind of revival-anybody who wanted to be part of it travel from his or her locality or country to Lagos. But all that has changed. No one needs to travel that far anymore before experiencing the move of God in the church. Now it is something that can be received everywhere-in Nigeria and beyond through the internet. Therefore, as we can see, these days are better than those good old days.

Is that why the Church went digital?

Yes. We decided to go digital because, looking at history, it is what you have that you use. Paul the Apostle in his days made use of ships most of the time. In John Wesley’s time, apart from ships, horses were the means of moving from one place to another. Different means of transportation existed from one generation to another and from one millennium to another. We decided to go digital because we are in a computer age. We have to take advantage of the present information technology because the Lord has given wisdom to people. Now, we are reaching a wider audience with the gospel message, and at a faster pace. You will agree with me that some decades ago, access to internet was limited only to the rich people and to the advanced countries of the world. The story is different now. Today, the internet is more readily available to a wider world populace which has made things easier. You can even google and get information easily without any problem. That is why we went digital.

Sir, how would you assess the impact of this technology on the church?

If you can think of how we are able to transmit in Africa and beyond during the Bible Study services alone, and how people across the globe are able to participate in the programme via the internet, I will say it has been quite tremendous , exciting and effective.
